Governor David Paterson signed into law on 3/16/10 The FHCDA. This law covers treatment decisions to forgo life-sustaining measures for children and adults who lack the capacity to decide for themselves and have not signed an advance directive. Under the act, the committees will provide advice upon request or in the event of disputes, to review certain sensitive decisions by surrogates, and carry out such other responsibilities as designated by the hospital or nursing home.
