The experience this past fall with the four patients diagnosed with Ebola Virus and the five diagnosed in West Africa and treated in the U.S. has taught us about the need for readiness to treat illnesses from across the globe as we live in a open society and in a metropolitan area that serves as the cross-roads of the world.
Joseph R. Masci, M.D., FACP, FACCP, FNYAM, FRSM, is Director of Medicine for Elmhurst Hospital Medical Center, Professor of Medicine for the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and is exceptionally qualified to present this webinar given his leadership in the handling of Ebola preparedness in the New York Metropolitan Area. He has held and holds numerous chairs with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, including Emergency Preparedness, and Corporate Pharmacy and Therapeutics. Among his many other responsibilities, he is an expert reviewer for the Global Burden of Disease Project, Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, University of Washington, and a Peer Review Consultant for the National Institutes of Health. He is the Lead Site Investigator (Elmhurst Hospital), Northeast Biodefense Center and sits on a host of editorial boards of peer reviewed journals.
